I have worked in IT for about twenty years, and small business owners often ask me what Claude actually does for a shop like theirs, and what it costs. This guide follows the searches people run next on Google (free, pricing, business plan, subscription, plugin) and answers each from Anthropic's own pages, read on October 25, 2026. Prices and plan details change often, so treat every number as a snapshot and check the page before you pay.
- What it is: Claude for Small Business is a set of ready-made workflows and connectors that Anthropic launched on May 13, 2026. It runs inside Claude and connects to tools such as QuickBooks, HubSpot and Canva.
- Is it free? Claude has a free plan, but Anthropic says the Small Business plugin needs a paid plan. See the pricing page.
- Cost: Pro is $17 a month on annual billing or $20 monthly. The Team plan is $20 per seat per month billed annually or $25 monthly, with a two-member minimum.
- Safety default: Anthropic says it does not train on your business data by default on Team and Enterprise plans, and workflows wait for your approval before anything sends, posts or pays.

Claude for Small Business: What It Is
Anthropic's launch announcement dated May 13, 2026 describes Claude for Small Business as a package of connectors and ready-to-run workflows that put Claude inside the tools owners already use, including Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. At launch it shipped with 15 workflows and 15 skills covering finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR and customer service.
The idea is simple. You switch it on, connect a tool or two, and pick a job. Claude does the work, and you approve before anything sends, posts or pays. Anthropic's September 15, 2026 update says the package now includes 43 workflows and 27 new integrations, including Shopify, Salesforce, TikTok, Atlassian, Zoom, Xero, Gusto, Square, Stripe and Zapier, and that it has been installed more than 900,000 times. That install count is Anthropic's own number and I could not check it.
One naming detail matters. The May announcement says the plugin runs in Claude Cowork. Anthropic's Claude Academy pages now show a banner saying "Claude Cowork is now just Claude," and the install guide asks for the Claude desktop app on a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan. Menu names may keep changing, so follow the current guide rather than older screenshots.
Is Claude for Small Business Free?
Short answer: the chat product has a free plan, but the small business plugin is not part of it. Anthropic's blog says Claude for Small Business is available on every paid Claude plan, and the help center says plugins are available to all paid plans (Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise). The free parts are the AI Fluency for Small Business course and the workshops, covered below.
You can open a free account at claude.ai to learn how Claude answers and drafts. Skip the free plan if your goal is the QuickBooks, HubSpot or Canva workflows, because those need the plugin on a paid plan.
Claude AI Business Pricing
These are the numbers on Anthropic's pages when I read them. The pricing page shows Pro at $17 a month with an annual subscription ($200 billed up front) or $20 if billed monthly. Max starts from $100 a month. For teams, the Team plan article says Standard seats are $25 per member per month billed monthly or $20 per member per month billed annually. Premium seats are $125 monthly or $100 per month billed annually. Prices are for US customers and exclude taxes.
Anthropic also says Team plans require at least two members and support up to 150 seats, and that "price and plans are subject to change at Anthropic's discretion." Usage limits are per member, so one heavy user does not use up everyone else's allowance.
Claude AI Business Plan: Team or Pro?
Anthropic's own small business page says Pro is for one person and Team is for a business with more than one, and both are month to month. The Team plan adds what a shared workspace needs: admin tools and billing management, single sign-on, role-based permissions, spend controls, connectors to Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, GitHub, Microsoft 365 and Slack, and monthly API credits. It also includes everything in Pro.
Standard seats include 1.25 times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance, and Premium seats include 6.25 times, according to the same article. Both have weekly limits that reset at a fixed time. If your team runs into the limit, owners can turn on usage credits so people keep working.
Pick Team if more than one person will use Claude with company data. You get central billing, roles and spend caps, and Anthropic's default of not training on Team data. Skip Team if you are a solo owner who just wants to try the plugin, because Pro is the plan Anthropic names for one person.
Claude AI Business Subscription: How to Sign Up
The Get started with the Team plan article lists the rules. The person creating the account must use a business email address, and public domains such as gmail.com, yahoo.com and hotmail.com are not allowed, although the article says you can add them as permitted domains for other members of your organization. Team members must use an email from your organization's allowed domains. Team plans require two members and are not intended for individual use. During sign-up you choose monthly or annual billing.
If you already have a Free, Pro or Max account on your work email, the article explains an in-place upgrade at claude.ai/upgrade. It mentions a "Keep your personal account separate" checkbox. If you do not tick it, your Pro or Max subscription is cancelled with a prorated refund and your projects move into the Team organization, and the article says public projects in your account become private after the upgrade. Read that section before you click, especially if you have personal chats in the account.
The same article explains how to claim the monthly API credits that Max and Team plans include. A Primary Owner or Owner links a Claude Console organization in the billing settings, and the article states the credits and conditions, so read those terms first.
Claude for Small Business Plugin: What Is Inside
The Academy guide says the plugin bundles skills and the connectors they read from, and that you can run a skill by typing a slash command or by describing the job in plain English. To install it, you open Claude, click Customize in the left sidebar, find Small Business under Plugins and click Install. The setup skill, smb-onboard, asks about your business, helps connect your tools and saves your context for the other skills.
Anthropic groups the skills into running the business and growing it. On the run side it lists commands such as /monday-brief, /close-month, /plan-payroll, /pay-the-bills, /restock and /tax-prep, plus skills for invoice chasing, cash-flow forecasts, payroll prep and contract review. On the grow side it lists /speed-to-lead, /grow-pipeline, /call-list, /marketing-monday and /reactivate, plus a proposal builder, review replies, social content and lead triage. The plugin page says it works with 37 partner connectors and that most workflows still run if you upload a spreadsheet or statement instead.
For a tool without an official connector, the guide describes build-connector (which links through Zapier or the connector directory) and build-agent (which turns a task you do by hand into a skill). You can also tell Claude to customize the plugin based on your company, and the skills save the changes you ask for.
Claude AI for Business: Real Workflows to Try
Anthropic's tutorial for small businesses walks through three workflows: a Monday morning brief, closing the month and planning payroll. The brief reads each connected tool and writes one page covering cash, sales trend, pipeline and the week's calendar, then ranks what needs your attention. The month-end close reconciles QuickBooks against PayPal settlements, flags what does not match and writes a close packet for your accountant. The payroll workflow builds a 30-day cash view and drafts reminders for overdue invoices that match how each customer has paid before.
The tutorial repeats one habit that I would copy: describe the job in plain words, let Claude pick the skill, and check the result against something you already know before you approve. Its example is confirming one draft reminder against your own records. It also says Claude prepares the work, but the calls on what to charge, what to sign and what to send your accountant stay with you and your professionals.
Is Claude Safe for Business Data?
Anthropic says half of the owners it surveyed named data security as their biggest hesitation. The small business page says that by default Anthropic does not train on your business data on Team and Enterprise plans, that you own your inputs, outputs and data, that its security controls are audited to the SOC 2 Type II standard, and that data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Those are Anthropic's statements, and its Trust Center holds the details.
The Privacy Center article says that by default Anthropic will not use inputs or outputs from its commercial products to train its models. There is an exception. If you explicitly report feedback or bugs, for example with the thumbs up or down button, or otherwise choose to allow it, Anthropic may use those chats to train its models. The article says an Owner of a Team or Enterprise plan can disable the ability for members to submit feedback with the "Rate chats" setting. The page also shows a feedback dialog with a note that submitting it stores the related conversation.
The rules for consumer plans are different. Anthropic's pricing table lists model training as "Opt-out" for Free, Pro and Max, and that article is about commercial products. I did not read the separate consumer privacy article, so check your own account settings if you use Pro or Max for work.
How to Install Plugins Safely
Anthropic's help center explains that plugins customize how Claude works for your role, team and company, and that each plugin bundles skills, connectors and sub-agents. It also warns that plugins may include local MCP servers that run on your computer with the same permissions as any other program you run, and tells you to install plugins only from sources you trust. On Team and Enterprise plans, your admin may have restricted which plugins you can install.
For the Small Business plugin itself, Anthropic's pages say Claude only sees what the account you connect can see, that your existing permissions in each tool still apply, and that every workflow starts in approval mode. Claude drafts and stages the work, then waits for your OK. Once you are comfortable with a workflow, you can let it run on its own, one workflow at a time. For payroll, Anthropic says Claude stages it in Gusto for you to submit, and it does not file anything for you.
Training, Workshops and Free Courses
Anthropic and PayPal offer a free, on-demand course, AI Fluency for Small Business, taught by owners who use AI in their own operations. Anthropic also runs the Claude SMB Tour, free half-day workshops. The page I read listed workshops in Bentonville on November 4, Tampa on November 10 and Raleigh on November 12, 2026, and says partner-led webinars and other trainers add more. Check the small business page for the current list.

Final Recommendation
- Solo owner who wants to try it: a Pro plan, one or two skills, approval mode on.
- Business with two or more people: the Team plan, with a business email as the account owner and feedback buttons turned off for staff.
- Not ready to pay: use the free plan for chat, take the free AI Fluency course, and decide after you know which job you want to hand off.
- Anything involving payroll, tax or contracts: keep your accountant or lawyer in the loop. Anthropic itself says the big decisions stay with you and your professionals.
